About Us
In the late 60’s, I moved to Hawaii from New York to go to the University of Hawaii and simply fell in love with the islands. Majoring in marine science, I developed a deep appreciation for the creatures of the sea and realized I needed to start documenting what I was witnessing. Consequently photography became an important part of my life. Capturing a moment on film has always excited me.
My spirit of adventure took me into underwater photography as a means of expressing a passion for getting close to sea turtles, dolphins, sharks, and rays. I have always been very comfortable in the ocean and as a freediver(no tanks). I am constantly amazed at how close the creatures allow me to get to take pictures(I never touch them–that would be rude). The challenge to get the shot that you want can be an incredible rush, leaving you high with satisfaction.
The secret to great underwater photography is to respect your subject’s space. I have learned this from years of swimming with spinner dolphins, hanging out(literally) with green sea turtles, and lying on the sandy bottom of coral caverns with whitetip sharks. To dance with a giant manta ray or keep company with a curious humpback whale is an experience beyond description. This is my life and I want to share it with you.
